The Coburg Lions fight to stand alone. Once a VFL seconds side, the Lions launched into the VFA in 1925, claiming three straight flags from 1926-28. Coburg stood firm and shrugged off a merger with North Melbourne after North took the Coburg Oval from them in 1965. A year later Coburg were back home, and have played there ever since. A community club playing in a corporate game, Coburg keep flying the flag for all who stand up for grassroots footy. Thanks to club captain Tom Goodwin for tapping me on the shoulder to draw this Lions retro tee.
